5w-30 Mobil 1.  Whatever upmarket filter I find at the store.  After 2 finger tight filters and a drain plug that fell out after a month (on another car I owned), no more quicky-lube monkey work for me.  (Apologies to any of you who might work in that trade).

Never thought about going to 10W-30/40.  I know the car uses oil, but just figured that's a part of owning a turbo car.

I use Shell Rotella T 5w-40 and Purolator filters.  ~$25 for oil and filter.  I've been using this oil for about 2 years and its great and affordable for someone that tracks their car(s).

Ok, so for all those wanting to go to 10w30 instead of 5w30 or a 0w30/0w40.

The first number is the viscosity at cold temps, the 2nd number is viscosity at hot temperatures.  Engine oil is thicker at high temps than at cold temps, which would contradict what you'd think about most oils.

Oil weight, or viscosity, refers to how thick or thin the oil is. The temperature requirements set for oil by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is 0 degrees F (low) and 210 degrees F (high).

What I'm saying here is that if you think Mobil 1 5W30 is too thin under high stress/hot temps, you want to go to a 0W40 (or a 5W40 if anyone makes it) rather than going to a 10W30, thinking it is thicker at high temps.

Anyone where to get good crush washers for cheap? I went to Autozone and O'Riley's(sp?) and they both were stumped that they had none and had to special order them.  O'Riley's(sp?) want $12 each to special order them. I told them that musta forgot to add the decimal point lol.

tubbytreats- i read the article, but it only mentions that petroleum based oils are thicker at cold temps.  synthetics are not affected by cold temps?  I was under the impression that a "w" rating on the oil was the winter (weight) rating (thickness)?

if my car was seeping oil at the seals, why when i switched to 10w30 from 5x30 synthetic did it stop?  should i try 5w-40?
